Cabinet Hinges by Function
Cabinet Hinges by Function
Here you can select cabinet hinges according to how the door should open and close. The range includes soft-close, push-to-open, self-closing and wide-angle hinges for kitchens, cabinets and furniture.
Function is only one part of choosing the correct hinge. You should also check the door position, door thickness, hinge cup size, opening angle and required mounting plate.
Soft-close hinges
Soft-close hinges slow the door during the final stage of closing and prevent it from slamming shut. Hinges with integrated soft close combine a self-closing spring with a built-in damping mechanism.
Push-to-open hinges
Push-to-open hinges are designed for handleless doors and have a reverse spring. When the door is pressed inward, the push catch releases and the hinge pushes the door outward so that it can be opened by hand.
A push-to-open hinge must be combined with a compatible push catch. The push catch releases the door, while the reverse spring in the hinge pushes it outward.
Self-closing hinges
Self-closing hinges have a spring that pulls the door inward during the final stage of closing and keeps it closed. They do not automatically include soft close and therefore do not slow the movement of the door.
Wide-angle hinges
Wide-angle hinges provide a larger opening angle than standard hinges. They are suitable when the door needs to open further for improved access or to allow drawers and pull-out units to move past the open door.
Check the complete installation
Two hinges with the same function are not necessarily interchangeable. Always compare the door position, hinge cup diameter, drilling depth, drilling pattern, K dimension, opening angle and hinge series.
Please note: A mounting plate is never included when purchasing a hinge. It must be selected according to the hinge series and installation and ordered separately.
Frequently Asked Questions About Hinge Functions
Which hinge function should I choose?
Choose soft-close when the door should be slowed during closing, push-to-open for a handleless door, self-closing for standard spring closing or wide-angle when the door needs to open farther.
What is the difference between soft-close and self-closing hinges?
A self-closing hinge uses a spring to pull the door in and hold it closed. A soft-close hinge also has a damping mechanism that slows the door and allows it to close gently.
How does a push-to-open hinge work?
The hinge has a reverse spring. Pressing the door releases the push catch, and the hinge’s spring then pushes the door out so that it can be opened by hand.
Does a push-to-open hinge require a push catch?
Yes. The hinge must be combined with a compatible push catch that holds the door closed and releases it when the door is pressed.
What is a wide-angle hinge?
It is a hinge with a larger opening angle than a standard hinge. It provides better access to the cabinet and can provide clearance for drawers or pull-outs behind the open door.
Can I choose a hinge based only on its function?
No. Also check whether the door is full-overlay, half-overlay or inset, together with the cup size, drilling depth, drilling pattern, door thickness, opening angle and hinge series.
Can an old hinge be replaced with one that has the same function?
Not without checking the other measurements. The same function does not mean that the cup size, drilling pattern, arm, opening angle or mounting plate will be compatible.
Is the mounting plate included with the hinge?
No. A mounting plate is never included when you purchase a hinge. It must be selected and ordered separately.
