Release Devices and Retaining Catches for Push-to-Open Doors

Release Devices and Retaining Catches for Push-to-Open Doors

Release devices allow handleless cabinet doors to be opened and closed with a light press on the door front. Here you will find release devices, double ejectors and compatible retaining catches for push-to-open solutions.

How the release device works

Pressing the door releases the retaining catch from the release device. When used with a push-to-open hinge with a reverse spring, the hinge then pushes the door outwards so that it can be opened by hand. When the door is closed, the retaining catch engages with the release device again and holds the door closed.

Release devices, retaining catches and adjustment

The retaining catch is fitted to the door and must be compatible with the selected release device. A positioning aid makes correct installation easier, while adjustable models allow the closed position of the door to be fine-tuned. A double ejector can provide a more even opening action.

The retaining catch is not included when purchasing a release device and must always be ordered separately. Also check that the hinges are designed for push-to-open operation and have a reverse spring.

Frequently Asked Questions About Release Devices and Retaining Catches

What is a release device?

A release device allows a handleless door to be opened and closed by pressing the door front. It is used with a compatible retaining catch and normally with push-to-open hinges.

What does the retaining catch do?

The retaining catch is fitted to the door and engages with the release device when the door is closed. Pressing the door releases the retaining catch so that the door can be opened.

Is the retaining catch included with the release device?

No, the retaining catch is not included and must always be ordered separately. Make sure that you select a retaining catch that is compatible with the release device.

Do all retaining catches fit all release devices?

No, the retaining catch must be compatible with the selected release device. Check the relevant product information before ordering the components.

How does the release device work with a push-to-open hinge?

Pressing the door releases the retaining catch from the release device. The reverse spring in the push-to-open hinge then pushes the door outwards so that it can be opened by hand.

What does the positioning aid do?

The positioning aid makes it easier to align the retaining catch correctly with the release device during installation.

Can the release device be adjusted after installation?

This depends on the model. Some release devices can be adjusted in depth and sideways, making it easier to fine-tune the closed position of the door.

Can release devices be used with self-closing hinges?

Standard self-closing hinges pull the door inwards and are therefore not normally suitable for push-to-open operation. Choose compatible push-to-open hinges with a reverse spring.
