Flap hinges for downward-opening cabinet doors

Flap hinges for downward-opening cabinet doors

Flap hinges are used on cabinets and furniture where the door is attached along its lower edge and opens downwards. They are suitable for kitchen cabinets, bar cabinets, writing furniture and other storage where a downward-opening door provides easy access to the cabinet interior.

Here you will find Kimana, Pacta and other hinges for downward-opening flap doors. The correct solution depends on the dimensions, weight and material of the door and how its opening and closing movement needs to be controlled.

Kimana – compact hinge for flap doors

Kimana is a compact, flat hinge for downward-opening doors. It is recessed using a 26 mm diameter bore in both the door and cabinet base and provides a 90° opening angle. The design requires only a small gap between the door and any surface below the cabinet.

Kimana can be used with wooden doors and suitable aluminium profiles. A minimum material thickness of 18 mm is recommended for the standard installation. Separate adapters are available for thinner materials and other combinations of door and cabinet thickness.

Kimana controls the pivot point of the door but does not have an integrated function that supports or slows the door during opening. The installation may therefore need to be combined with a separate flap stay selected according to the dimensions and weight of the door.

Pacta – self-supporting system with controlled opening

Pacta is a compact, self-supporting hinge system for downward-opening doors. It operates without cables or gas springs and slows the door during opening, providing gradual and controlled movement.

When fully open, the door aligns with the cabinet base to create a continuous, level surface. Pacta has a 90° opening angle and is available in versions for wooden and aluminium-framed doors.

The system is available for self-closing doors and in a Push version for handleless doors. Check which version and supplementary components are required for the desired function.

Choose according to door height and weight

The height, width and weight of the door determine the correct model and number of hinges. The standard Pacta system is designed for doors measuring 280–400 mm in height and weighing 1.5–9.5 kg. An additional centre hinge may be required for wide doors.

For Kimana, the number of hinges is determined by the width and construction of the door. Always follow the installation instructions and load recommendations for the selected model.

Check which parts must be ordered separately

A flap hinge system may consist of several components. Depending on the selected solution, you may need a mounting plate, adapter, flap stay, Push component, damper, centre hinge or cover cap.

Mounting plates and other supplementary parts are only included when expressly stated on the product page. Always check product designations, dimensions and compatibility before ordering.

What is the difference between Kimana and Pacta?

Kimana is a compact hinge that controls the pivot point of the door and may require a separate flap stay. Pacta is a self-supporting system with integrated, controlled opening that operates without cables or gas springs.

Does Kimana slow the door during opening?

No. Kimana is the hinge itself and does not have an integrated function that supports or slows the door. Where required, it is combined with a separate flap stay selected according to the dimensions and weight of the door.

Does Pacta require cables or gas springs?

No. Pacta is a compact, self-supporting hinge system that controls the opening movement without cables or gas springs.

Pacta is available in a Push version for handleless doors. Check which Push components and other accessories are required for the selected version.

Can Kimana be used with thinner materials?

The standard installation is intended for materials at least 18 mm thick. Separate adapters are available for thinner materials and certain combinations of door and cabinet thickness.

The number depends on the width, height, weight and material of the door and the selected system. An additional centre hinge may be required for wide Pacta doors. Always follow the load chart and installation instructions.

Are the mounting plate and accessories included?

Supplementary components are only included when expressly stated on the product page. Mounting plates, adapters, flap stays, Push components, dampers, centre hinges and cover caps may need to be ordered separately.
